Small World
Pam and I saw this bottle of Piri-Piri at Cow Bay Cafe. Small world? Notice where it is made?

Cruise Ship wake sinks 20-foot charter boat in Prince Rupert Harbour
From CFTK News: “A local man is lucky to be alive after his boat sank in Prince Rupert’s harbor this afternoon. The man had docked his 20 foot charter boat when waves ceated by the arriving cruiseship, caused it to rock so violently, it tipped over. The man couldn’t jump off the boat fast enough and ended up rolling under the water along with the boat. He held his breath and rolled under the dock, until he was pulled out of the water unharmed. His boat wasn’t so lucky, it sank. No one was harmed and the incident is currently under investigation. ”
Discussed on HTMF Prince Rupert forum thread.

How I spent Sunday
I spent Sunday documenting Peter Freeman’s group of volunteers moving a dead humpback whale from one place to another. The plan is to sink the whale for a year, let nature’s critters have a feast, and then recover the skeleton.

Winter Day
I haven’t been doing much on the photography front lately. I have a new job, and I’ve been working on my Masters. Maybe I’ll start posting photos again during Christmas.
Meanwhile, some typical Prince Rupert winter shots:

Rhapsody of the Seas
Rhapsody of the Seas in Prince Rupert Harbour, June 11, 2008. A good excuse to use my new camera, and try the auto-stitch panoramic feature of CS3.
Last week of summer
Well, it’s here. The last week of summer. This time next week, I’ll be back at work full time, and taking another course.
This is a picture of baby’s new crib:

It took a lot less time than I expected to put it together. Pam took some photos during the whole affair, which you can see on her site.
Pam was the first one in the theatre for Snakes on a Plane:

I need to get out more (if the rain ever stops) and try more photography:

Norwegian Star in Prince Rupert
Here’s a panorama I created with my little point-and-shoot S500 and Photoshop CS2:
Click on the image for a bigger version. Or view the original, huge version. The panorama was created automagically with Photoshop CS2, which has a nifty merge photo function (pretty much the same function in Photoshop Elements 4).
Lowering the flag
The HMCS Edmonton, HMCS Yellowknife, and HMCS Saskatoon recently visited Prince Rupert. All three ships lowered their flags at sunset, at the same time:

Norwegian Cruise Line cheaps out on Canadian Flag
Next time there’s a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship in Prince Rupert harbour, check out their maple leaf flags. It appears NCL is flying cheap knock-offs of the Canadian flag. Maybe they got a deal on a bunch at Wal-Mart or something.
Here’s a photo I took of the Norwegian Wind‘s flag in Vancouver:
The maple leaf in the middle of the flag is much smaller than it should be. For comparison, here’s a photo of the same flags, with the Canada Place flag in the foreground. Notice the difference in size of the maple leaf?
Big version of the photo in my photo album.
The flag should look like this:

but it seems to look like this:

It also appears that the side bars on the flag are skinnier than they should be.
Unfortunately, I never seem to have a camera on me when I’m near a cruise ship in Prince Rupert. The Norwegian Sun is flying the same wimpy Canadian flag, though.
Imagine the controversy this would cause if this were the Stars and Stripes! Thankfully, Canadians don’t care too much about this stuff. We’ll just chalk it up to typical (but harmless) American ignorance. Sort of like when they flew the Canadian flag upside down at the 1992 World Series.
