The Question is Moot

Jesse Jackson hosted Saturday Night Live on October 20th, 1984. One of the skits was of a gameshow called “The Question is Moot.” I don’t know why, but I always found it really funny.

A couple of nights ago, my TiVo recorded this episode, so I thought I’d grab this video clip and post it here.

[update!] The youtube clip doesn’t exist anymore, but you can still view the video here:

First of all, that Ronaldo optical illusion is really cool. Second, though, I was hoping you could direct me to a working copy of the Jesse Jackson Question is Moot video. I can’t find it anywhere and was really hoping to show it to a friend. Do you have a copy you can email me? If not, do you know where I can get a copy?

    Thanks,
    Warren

Hi Warren, I’ve put a link to my mirror of the video — it works now.

    Miguel,

I was hoping to show the video to someone as well but am having difficulty with the link you provided.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Weird, it works for me.

    Try this direct link instead:

That’s a direct link, while the other one was through a mirror thing.

If it still doesn’t work, e-mail me (miguel at menino) and I’ll e-mail it to you directly.

  • Mike

That worked – thanks a lot.

Thank You, Thank You. I saw this during it’s first airing in 1984 as well. It’s amazing to see how funny Jesse Jackson and SNL were not so long ago.

Thanks so much! Was looking for this for years, still remember it from 23 years ago, very funny!

I love the Internet. I just used the line “I get the car” today, and wanted to find the video from the Jesse Jackson skit on SNL all those years ago. A little search and POOF! Here it is. Thanks for finding it, guys. Fun memories.

Thanks!!!! I was hoping to find this on youtube,
but it was not there. But google found your site!
Was it really 23 years ago? Yikes!!!

I don’t agree with Jesse Jackson’s politics, but
this skit is hillarious! I must have heard this
in my head thousands of times over the years!

    Thanks again!

I remembered this being way funnier than it is — I laughed so hard back when I saw it on TV, and I didn’t laugh at all this time. Oh well, thanks for posting it!

  • Todd

Doesn’t seem to be working anymore. Still have the video?

  • http://menino.com Miguel

Ok, just copied it over again. Should work.

Thanks for that. I needed to feel old. LOL.

O.K. I remember this coming on as a kid and I died laughing then and I found this on google and I’m dying laughing now!!! This skit is as hilarious as it is rare. Thanks for hooking that up!!!!

thanks for posting this. I don’t care for Jesse Jackson, but I love this skit.

On this same episode was the first appearance of a ‘Tippy Turtle’ cartoon. He sang “First I’m gonna’ bother everyone that I meet, then I’ll go home and get drunk”. Do you have access to that part of the show? I’ve been looking for it for years. I know, I know…the question is moot…

  • Mark N.

ALSO TRYING TO GET THIS CARTOON! LOVEIT!!! >>>‘Tippy Turtle’

TomB and MarkN… I’m with you! I’ve been searching everywhere for any episode(s) of Tippy Turtle.

If you all come across a source, would you please let me know?

Just in case you’re interested, here’s the SNL transcript of Tippy’s title sequence:

… NOW try and keep the song from getting stuck in your head!! muhahaha!
    Cheers!

Thanks for the video. Also interesting to see what ‘Elaine’ looked like before she connected with Seinfeld.
